Calypso is a style of Afro-Caribbean music that originated in Trinidad and Tobago during the early to mid-20th century. Its rhythms can be traced back to West African Kaiso and the arrival of French planters and their slaves from the French Antilles in the 18th century

Chutney music is typically played with the dholak, dhantal and harmonium. The melody of the music is provided by the harmonium, and the dholak and dhantal for the rhythm

Soca music is an evolution of Calypso. It is a musical genre and a particularly popular Caribbean dance in Trinidad and Tobago. This is a faster version of calypso. It was born in Trinidad carnival, in the 1970s. The first pieces of Soca explained the social and political problems of Trinidad and Tobago but this music has gradually turned into party music.

In Trinidad and Tobago, Chutney Soca music is a crossover style of music incorporating Soca elements and Hindi-English lyrics, Chutney music, with Indian instruments such as the dholak and dhantal.
